Improving developer performance has the power to significantly improve your business.
Not marginally…significantly
You have a team of creative high performers; maybe even multiple teams.
Think about that.
What an incredible asset they are!
When you begin to listen to them and enable them to do their best work, you are tapping into a source of innovative power that will yield exponential business value.
The worst thing you can do is to drop them on an assembly line and drive them to work faster.
That’s a performance anti-pattern for engineers (and just about everyone else).
A productive creative environment is more about culture than it is about systems.
I doubt anyone is intentionally trying to create a negative culture, but it still happens.
Those “Root Cause Analysis” sessions are probably meant to help everybody, but they can feel like the Spanish Inquisition to the person going through them.
The point is, when you create a culture where your engineers feel heard and are enabled to solve problems, the work gets done.
Systems are still valuable but culture reigns supreme.
