What’s the impact of a company’s culture?
How does a healthy culture propel the entire business forward?
What about an unhealthy one?
A culture where people are stressed and burnt out, where they dread coming to work. When they show up to work, they are just there to punch in and do their time.
At home,we’re re-watching The Office for the X-th time. (I would probably be embarrassed to know the actual number)
There’s an episode where the employees start hearing what prison is like; they unanimously agree that prison sounds better than coming to work.
We end up meeting “Prison Mike” who gives a hilarious pep-talk in an effort to convince everyone that prison is not better than work.
Humor aside, I wonder how many people have similar feelings in your organization?
…at least to some degree?
Obviously work isn’t literally like prison, but I know I’ve felt trapped and helpless when I show up to work.
I’m not finger pointing or blaming, just highlighting the importance of culture.
I wrote a post the other day about the culture of Git-r-done and work faster no matter what.
What about blame culture? Who broke this? Who released that bug? Who’s going to pay for this? (A culture that I’ve experienced personally)
How do you think that makes developers feel? Positive? Excited? Creative?
…or something else?
What happens to great talent that’s disengaged because of bad culture?
Does that matter to you?
Reply with your experience of culture, good or bad. I’d love to hear from you.
Best,
Andre
